Translucent

day 17 translucentTranslucence. Seeing through glass somewhat clearly, somewhat ambiguously. I love the turquoise-teal shade of this glass jar, and the various white to sea glass green in our backsplash.

I love translucence in watercolour, which was my first love in art. I haven’t done much watercolour in the past few years, but I used to love the way the colours melted into one another on 300 lb Arches watercolour paper. Especially the colours of brick and leaves, like the heading of this blog, a sketch I did some fourteen years ago.

A value I hold dear in my own life is being real, and allowing myself to be me. To be translucent. I don’t say transparent, because I don’t think it’s possible to be completely transparent in life. There are so many nuances of human nature. Sometimes we see and are seen through rose-coloured glasses. At other times, we are shadowy or absent.
