This isn’t exactly a new year’s resolution post, but I did turn over a new leaf creatively this week. January and September seem to have this effect on me.
Daily Paintings
I decided to start the new year doing some daily painting. To keep this from becoming intimidating, I cut up some watercolour paper into teeny tiny pieces. That way, if nothing else, I could paint a micro painting even if I only have a few minutes. I really enjoyed this sense of creativity and play so far this year.
New Website
My husband had the time the other day to professionally photograph 47 of my paintings! I had wanted these photos so that I can market my new series for exhibition in some smaller galleries. Also, I wanted the quality to be excellent so that I could create prints to sell.
Once I had all the images, I remembered I need to update my website. The next thing I knew, I was creating a new website. It’s been a lot of work, as anyone who has done this knows, but I think it will be rewarding when I’m finished. I plan to migrate this content over there soon, so do stay tuned!
New Ideas
My friend and I were talking about my latest series, and she suggested I could create commissions of others’ photos into mixed media pieces. What a great idea! I am going to tuck that into my mind for now, because I am due to return to work full-time in one month, and I am also being kept extremely busy with my 11-month-old who just started walking. And climbing onto chairs and containers and boxes to get to what he wants!
All this to say that it has been an amazing year. I feel a lot more confident in who I am as an artist, the direction I am going, and how rooted I am when I get into nature a few times a week. It’s going to be a big change when I return to work, but I hope that my website and creative habits will be organized so that I can keep up a little bit of art.
