Light is something that reveals, penetrates and changes things. On the day I was supposed to capture the element of light in art, I was suffering alongside a family who lost a child at birth. This was the day I attended the funeral, or the celebration of life, for their son. I was blown away at how the family was able to allow their faith in God to sustain them through the entire experience. This was light. Light reaching out to hundreds of people around them. This was real. Raw.
Afterward, the sun was lower and its light cast long warm streaks across the orchard–with its gnarly ancient tree–onto the palisade wall at Fort Langley. Light brings hope and creates shadows, reveals flaws and warms them.
