After a few days away, I was ready to continue work on the painting. I had done several layers of background colour and washes, and kind of hated it. Sometimes when I am working on a painting, I can get a little bit dramatic. Like bipolar. I despised the painting. But after starting to paint over the whole thing with white and then wiping it back off with a rag, it looked perfect.
I built a city on the far shore out of brightly coloured scraps of paper that I keep for the purpose. A collection of old papers from my great grandparents house, painted papers from art school, paper I found blowing around on the sidewalk when I lived in Vancouver.
Once this dries I’m going to work on the trees and distressing the water and sky a little bit.

Love all these images, especially the simplicity of the three vases on the table. Nice composition.

Thank you! I liked the idea of sparse stems in vases that I saw in a magazine.
