I spent the weekend with my dear friends in Montreal. I’ve always considered living there, since my Quebec exchange in 1994. This weekend I was delighted by all the charming features – the older architecture, colourfully painted apartments with brick features, high ceilings, spiral staircases. My friends’ lifestyle also appealed to me – making their own bread every couple days, making things (art, clothes), living sustainably, using transit. I would describe them as “kindred spirits,” as Anne of Green Gables would say.
I remembered fondly our days as 16 year old girls, making things together, painting when we were paired for 3 months at each others’ homes. At that time, I wanted to just stay in Quebec. My quirky personality got along great with the Quebecois!
