Five years ago

I have a Victoria Day tradition: working as the event lead at Fort Langley National Historic Site. Exactly five years ago, 8 months pregnant, I did just that. Like today, I marched all over with the camera taking photos and ensuring the event was going according to plan. Today was quite similar:

In 2009, however, it was a bit too much. The following day I went to work as usual but noticed by the end of the day I was still having contractions, which I’d been having for a couple of months so I didn’t think much of it. Afterall, I had a lot to get done in my last week of work, and the due date still loomed almost 3 weeks off. After work, the staff surprised me with a shower (that picture above was after the shower, May 19, 2009). By 5:15 on May 20, quitting time at work, I was holding my newborn baby.

I wasn’t sure what to expect of having a baby boy, and it has definitely been interesting, entertaining, and fun. I am so thankful for him!
